Post-operative-care

  • A responsible adult must provide transportation for you after surgery (public transportation is not permissible).
  • Avoid making major decisions or participating in activities that require judgment for 24 hours after surgery.
  • Avoid any activities that cause pain or discomfort. There are no restrictions on your activity or exercise (you can start exercise after wearing pressure garments).
  • You are encouraged to walk around the house on the day of surgery and thereafter. This helps to prevent blood clots from developing in the legs.
  • Resume activities slowly. You may feel tired for the first few days but you should be able to return to normal activities within 2 to 3 days.
  • Take all medications as instructed post operatively.
  • Some bruising and swelling is normal. Bruising would go off within two to three weeks. It is expected to take 3months to see your final results (60 to 70% results are visible immediately after surgery).
  • Drink lots of liquids after surgery to help replenish fluids that may have been lost during surgery. Please do not do dieting for first weeks of liposuction because body would needs energy to replenish depleted store after surgery.
  • You will go home with an elastic bandage in place. Customized Pressure garments would be ready within 3 days. Dressing would be done 3 days after surgery when pressure garments are ready.Dressing would consist of removal of dressing and application of handiplast at liposuction cannula entry site and wearing of pressure garments. if you are from other city pressure garments would be delivered at your home and you can remove dressing and apply handiplast at liposuction cannula entry site yourself also.
  • Pressure garments are to be worn for 2 to 3 months. (For initial 3 weeks continously and from 3 weeek to 3 months 12 hours).
  • Expect to have a moderate amount of swelling and drainage. You may change the gauze pads over your elastic bandage as needed to help keep clothing dry. The drainage from the small incisions may be significant for the first 12 hours after surgery but should stop after 24 hours. If it persists after then, please call the office.
Call our office if you develop any of the following
  • Fever of 101 degrees F or greater.
  • Pain not relieved with pain medication.
  • Swelling, redness, bleeding, and/or foul drainage from an incision site.
  • Persistent nausea and/or vomiting.
  • Any other concerns.
